The WECHU is offering a limited number of appointments to get an additional COVID-19 XBB vaccination based on The Ministry of Health’s recommendation that the following individuals receive an additional dose this spring:
- Adults 65 years of age and older
- Adult residents of long-term care homes and other congregate living settings for seniors.
- Individuals 6 months of age and older who are moderately to severely immunocompromised (due to an underlying condition or treatment).
- Individuals 55 years and older who identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis and their non-Indigenous household members who are 55 years and older.
Eligibility and Recommendations
- Individuals 6 months and older not previously vaccinated or who are in the process of completing their primary series remain eligible to receive doses per COVID-19 Vaccine Guidance.
- Individuals whose health care provider has advised them to receive a dose at this time based on their health situation remain eligible.
- Receiving a COVID-19 vaccine in Spring 2024 is particularly important for individuals at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 who did not receive a dose during the Fall 2023 program.
All other individuals are not currently recommended to receive a COVID-19 vaccine dose in Spring 2024 and should wait until further MOH recommendations. This includes individuals who are not at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and who did not receive an XBB COVID-19 vaccine in Fall 2023, unless they are specifically recommended to receive a dose by their health care provider.
Eligible individuals may receive an XBB COVID-19 vaccine in Spring 2024 if it has been 6 months from the previous COVID-19 vaccine dose or known SARS-CoV-2 infection (whichever is later). Individuals 6 months and older, may receive a COVID-19 vaccine simultaneously with or at any time before or after non-COVID-19 vaccines. There are two exceptions. COVID-19 vaccines should not be co-administered with the Imvamune vaccine (for Mpox) and the Arexvy vaccine for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). It is recommended to wait 4 weeks between COVID-19 and Imvamune, and 2 weeks between COVID -19 and Arexvy.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE COMING TO THE CLINIC?
- Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
- Mask or face coverings are strongly recommended at the vaccination site.
- If you do not have an OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) card, you can still get a vaccine by presenting another form of a government issued-photo ID such as a driver’s license, passport, Status Card or other provincial health cards. You do not have to be a Canadian citizen to receive a vaccine if you are a current resident of Windsor-Essex.
- It is recommended that a parent or legal guardian attend the vaccination appointment with anyone under 16 years of age.
- Stay home if you or your child is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or are not feeling well. Rebook the appointment when they are feeling well.

Contact your health care provider to confirm they are administering COVID-19 vaccines. Please note that your health care provider may not be directly administering COVID-19 vaccines; however, the vaccine may be available through a partnering health care provider.
